Bishop Barbarito uses Masses to discuss dangers of Florida Amendment 4

Bishop Barbarito

At the three weekend Masses in which he presided Oct. 5-6 — Steps for Life, then the Red Mass and Respect Life Mass at the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola — Bishop Gerald M. Barbarito made parishioners aware of the importance of their vote against Amendment 4, which seeks to enshrine abortion with virtually no limits in Florida’s constitution.

At left, Bishop Barbarito speaks during the Steps for Life Mass at Emmanuel Church in Delray Beach Oct. 5, 2024.

Calling the amendment radical, vague, unethical and poorly written, he warned that the proposal would permit nonmedical personnel to approve abortions and allow minors to receive abortions without their parents’ consent.

“That’s incredible because, in Florida, the child, rightly so, at school cannot receive a Tylenol tablet unless they get permission of the parent,” the bishop said. “If Amendment 4 goes through, the parent does not have to give permission for their child to have an abortion.”
