Aid, support, prayers needed after Milton

Staff and volunteers with Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach help transfer donated goods from one truck to another for distribution to those in need.

PALM BEACH GARDENS  |  Teams from Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach continue to be in the communities they serve. On Oct. 14, staff assisted victims of Hurricane Milton in Martin County, then staff and volunteers, including board members and volunteers from St. Anastasia Parish, partnered with Mustard Seed Ministries to get needed relief to residents in the Fort Pierce area.

On Oct. 15, the workers were in Wellington to help tornado victims. Catholic Charities accepted the first round of basic-need donations for disaster victims Oct. 11 in Riviera Beach. The donations are being distributed to individuals and families across the diocese who are recovering from the tornadoes and flooding.

In response to the hardships caused by the storms, Bishop Gerald M. Barbarito offered the following Oct. 11 statement requesting prayers and support for those affected by Hurricane Milton:

“Our hearts go out in prayer and support to all those so adversely affected by Hurricane Milton. It is very hard to understand the nature of a natural disaster, but our faith is reassured that God is with us even in the most difficult of times. Our concern for others so adversely affected by the storm is a sign of God’s presence.

Catholic Charities is undertaking a collection to assist in regards to the ravages and destruction of the storm.

All information in this regard can be found on Catholic Charities’ website (www.ccdpb.org) as well as at www.diocesepb.org/news/news-and-notes.html/article/2024/10/11/2024-hurricane-milton-response.

We join in prayer and support and pray for their well-being at this most difficult time.”
