Preschool Director - Southern Deanery

The Diocese of Palm Beach in West Palm Beach, FL is searching for a full time Preschool Director.

Essential Job Duties

The director shall provide leadership for developing educational programs.

A) Staff:

  1. Define the center’s mission and philosophy, goals, and objectives with the staff and parents.
  2. Include the total staff in developing the educational process.
  3. Develop procedures for hiring and orientation of personnel
  4. Establish criteria for the assignment, promotion, reduction-in-force, non-renewal, and termination of personnel.
  5. Encourage, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate professional growth of staff members.
  6. Serve as reference source for curriculum, materials, and special needs.
    • Have reference materials available for teachers
    • Research new literature pertaining to child development and make it available to teachers
    • Work with teachers and parents concerning any child with special needs and refer to the proper agency when deemed necessary.
  7. Have available and provide staff with information about seminars and workshops, which are pertinent to our program.
  8. Responsible for monthly staff meeting to discuss specific problems, share ideas, and plan curriculum and activities.
  9. Assure that all personnel file in order and up to date.
  10. Promote a Team Work in the preschool
  11. Monthly Staff one-on one meeting

B) Students:

  • Endeavor to meet the needs of the students.
  • Arrange systematic procedures for continual assessment of the religious, social, intellectual, and emotional growth of students.
  • Coordinate the health, safety, counseling services to staff and student personnel.
  • Assure all student files are in order and kept up to date.
  • Provide entrance, orientation, placement, and follow-up for new students.

C) Parents and Community:

  • Seek to maintain open channels of communication within the entire preschool community.
  • Make a planned effort through quality performance and two-way communication to influence the parish, Diocese, and public.
  • Responsible to plan activities for the preschool.
  • Work with the assistant director on a monthly newsletter.
  • Be available to parents to discuss any concerns or ideas about the program and/or specific children.
  • Keep parents updated with any pertinent information by sending home memos, letters, or articles.
  • Is the contact person for any outside group employed by our preschool.
  • Bring professionals in to discuss special themes with the children.
  • Responsible for Open Houses and visitors’ tour.

D) Business Management:

  • Supervise and maintain an accurate accounting system
  • Submit a yearly calendar to the Diocese and Parish office.
  • Supervise the daily routine in the classroom.

E) Preschool Facilities:

  • Supervise the operation of the preschool in accordance with State and County law, fire regulations, and local building codes.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership or related field
  • DCF ELC VPK Director Credentials
  • Proficient in Google Drive, Excel, and various Social Media platforms
  • Excellent and professional telephone manner, interpersonal skills, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work effectively with Diocesan employees, department heads, school stakeholders, and representatives of other agencies and the public.
  • Ability to multitask, work independently, and make responsible judgment calls.
  • Strong organizational skills and positive problem-solving skills required.
  • Ability to use office equipment (telephone, school security system, fax, scanner, computer, copier, iPad, camera, etc.)

Physical and Work Requirements:

  • Occasional light lifting and carrying of under 15 pounds
  • Occasional moderate carrying and lifting of 15 — 44 pounds 
  • Frequent use of both hands and fingers (i.e., typing)
  • Frequent and extended periods of sitting or standing
  • Occasional periods of kneeling and climbing
  • Occasional ability of minimal hearing (i.e., loud noises, sirens) and routine hearing (i.e., listening to others in conversation)
  • Frequent time spent working closely with others
