Part-Time Resource Teacher - St. Joseph Catholic Church and School

St. Joseph Catholic Church and School in Stuart, Florida, has an opening for certified Resource Teacher for 5th - 8th grade students. The candidate performs all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of St. Joseph Catholic Church and School and the Diocese of Palm Beach.

 Functions and Responsibility:

  • Prepare service plans for all identified students at SJCS which describe how the school will meet the accommodations described in the student’s IEP/504 (if coming from another school) or in the psych-ed evaluation.
  • Seek input if needed from teachers, parents, and administrators while preparing these plans
  • Prepare a “student snapshot” for each identified student to provide teachers with concise information about the diagnosis and specific accommodations needed by each child. Teachers should receive a copy of the Snapshot at the beginning of the year (or immediately after diagnosis) for each accommodated student in their classes.
  • Meet with parents and teachers twice a year, identify action steps for students, parents, and teachers, have all parties sign and review action steps and the results at each meeting.
  • Keep teachers apprised of any changes to a student’s plan.
  • Create and maintain a system for organizing all documents. Maintain a student's service plan and keep a copy of these in a file cabinet in the resource room; provide copies to the office to go in the student’s cumulative file.
  • Schedule testing with Dr. Forgan and other identified professionals; inform the front office and student’s teachers of scheduled testing dates and times.
  • Attend department meetings when requested and other parent meetings to provide insight on identified students’ needs and to suggest appropriate strategies
  • Manage all requests for accommodations for Terra Nova, including uploading a student’s documentation; communicate with parents regarding this process and offer guidance and support
  • Manage the resource room throughout the day and perform the following duties:
  • Reteach concepts and assist students in understanding instruction
  • Assist with student organization
  • Assist students with homework assignments, projects, or scaffolding of material
  • Provide a quiet, distraction free environment for students to test.
  • Push into classrooms as scheduled.
  • Assist the full time resource teacher as needed.
  • Maintain a testing calendar and train teachers how and when to use it. Require teachers to give you advance notice of when students will be coming to the resource room.
  • Monitor identified students’ grades and performance, calling meetings when necessary and serving as an advocate for students to their teachers and the SJCS community.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Must maintain a valid Florida professional teaching license or be eligible for certification.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, Google Classroom/G-Suite as well as Renweb.
  • Excellent and professional interpersonal skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to multitask, work independently, and make responsible judgment calls.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to use office equipment (fax, computer, copier, iPad, etc.).
  • Willing to become proficient in computer and iPad applications used by the school.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional light lifting and carrying of under 15 pounds
  • Occasional moderate carrying and lifting of 15 – 44 pounds
  • Occasional bending, climbing, stretching, and kneeling
  • Frequent use of both hands and fingers
  • Occasional moments of minimal and routine hearing
