Part Time Director of Faith Formation and Youth Ministry - Sacred Heart Catholic Church
Sacred Heart Catholic Church located in Okeechobee, FL is searching for a Part Time Director of Faith Formation and Youth Ministry (25 hours per week).

Faith Formation / Youth Ministry Duties and Responsibilities:
- Organizes, schedules & oversees all faith formation and youth ministry efforts for children, youth and adults, preparing a yearly calendar for approval of the Pastor. All programs should focus on the family as the essential agent in faith formation and key to forming committed disciples.
- Oversees OCIA in both English and Spanish including Easter Vigil Sacraments; Baptisms, Confirmation, First Communion.
- Prepares and schedules sacramental preparation programs, retreats, and liturgical services for recipients and families. Must be present in the Church to accompany recipients receiving sacraments and their families.
- Recruits, screens, supervises and prepares catechists, catechetical volunteers, and mentors for all faith formation, sacramental preparation and OCIA programs in accordance with diocesan guidelines (includes professional and spiritual formation).
- Maintains accurate records of students and families
- Prepares an annual budget for the Pastor, orders textbooks, teaching materials and supplies with the approval of the Pastor and provides monthly financial updates.
- Include Community Outreach as a component of all Faith Formation and Youth Ministry Programs.
- Provides access and inclusion for children with special needs.
Liturgical Ministry Duties / Sacristan/Liturgist/Choir Director:
- Involves family as an essential agent in faith formation to form committed disciples
- Overseeing and working with those who serve as a volunteer to the Altar, Lector, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, and Homebound ministry.
- Working with the Church Choirs and music directors integrating the presence of the Youths and CCD Students into our Church liturgy and worshipping activities.
Pastoral Associate Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administers parish catechetical activities and provides leadership to assist the parish community in building a solid foundation for faith formation
- Involves family as an essential agent in faith formation to form committed disciples
- Monitors Protecting God’s Children for volunteers (Compliance for the Diocese)
- Assisting all our CCD Teachers and volunteers with Fingerprinting and Virtus Training before being in a Classroom with students or youth.
- Serves as an active and dynamic presence in the parish
- Overseeing and working with volunteers who do Church set up for Masses and other Liturgical events.
Qualifications:
- Must be a practicing Catholic who adheres to teachings, morals and practices of the Catholic faith.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of and willingness to evangelize and share the truths of the Catholic faith.
- Bachelor degree in Religious Education or Theology required. An equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above-described essential functions may be considered.
- Commitment to ongoing formation and certification through diocesan approved programs (e.g., Franciscan Catechetical Institute)
- Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience as a Parish Faith Formation, Catechetical or Youth Ministry Leader.
- Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet and a working knowledge of office equipment (phones, computers, printers, fax, scanner).
- Knowledge and understanding of evangelization and catechesis and the current effective models of formation for children, youth and adults.
- Willingness to address specific needs and challenges facing families, children and youth and to accompany them along the way.
- Adhere to the Diocese of Palm Beach Code of Conduct with emphasis on confidentiality and the ability to exercise discretion and good judgment
- Self-motivated individual with excellent time-management skills and a strong ability to organize, prioritize and multi-task, working independently, meeting deadlines, and making responsible judgment calls.
- Oral and written communication, with strong presentation and public speaking skills.
- Ability to work effectively and communicate professionally with other employees, vendors, representatives of other agencies, diocesan personnel, volunteers, and the general public.
- Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license and reliable transportation
Physical Requirements:
- Occasional light lifting and carrying of under 15 pounds
- Occasional moderate carrying and lifting of 15 – 44 pounds
- Frequent use of both hands and fingers (i.e. typing)
- Frequent extended periods of sitting
- Occasional periods of standing, kneeling and climbing
- Occasional ability of minimal hearing (i.e. loud noises, sirens) and routine hearing (i.e. listening to others in conversation)
- Occasional time spent working closely with others
