Full Time Maintenance Assistant - Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church
Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church located in Royal Palm Beach, FL is searching for a Full Time Maintenance Assistant.

Summary:
Perform routine work involving the repair and general maintenance of facilities, buildings, equipment and grounds under the supervision of the Facility Maintenance Manager. In addition, duties will also involve custodial work as well as set up and take down of tables chairs etc.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform tasks associated with repair and maintenance of all buildings and grounds.
- Ensure assigned cleaning and disinfecting assign ed duties are performed timely and effectively.
- Provide a constant stream of supplies for all parts of the facility, including paper and towels for bathrooms, bags for recycling, and trash bins and batteries for electronics.
- Set up meeting space for meeting/classes and conferences by preparing a room with adequate table and seating space depending on the number of guests expected.
- Update building manager of major issues with interior or exterior facilities, including climate control, damages or pest infestation problems.
- Working knowledge of equipment, tools, and machinery used for maintenance and repairs.
- Working knowledge of language and terms used in maintenance work.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, air filters, deliveries, etc.
- Perform custodial duties as assigned.
- Working knowledge of and follow safety guidelines.
- Follow directions, be self-directed, and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Other duties as assigned by Facilities manager.
- Provide support for the Parish when large events are scheduled.
Other Responsibilities
- Attend all parish staff meetings and in-service days.
- Ensure facility offices, worship, gathering areas and entire facility grounds are cleaned and maintained
- Maintain organized inventory of janitorial/cleaning supplies
- Open or lock and secure entire Church facilities as needed
- Ensure communication on all issues and concerns to the appropriate personnel.
Qualifications:
- One or more years of experience in maintenance work
- High school diploma or its equivalent
- Solid understanding of a variety of repair techniques and tool operation
- Ability to work in a physically demanding job that includes heavy lifting and standing
- Adherence to all common safety standards, a knowledge of and adherence to the diocese guidelines.
- Ability to work nights and weekends as-needed and be on-call for emergencies or large events.
- Basic knowledge of skilled trade activities in carpentry, masonry, painting, plumbing, electrical and mechanical work
- Skill in the use of a variety of skilled trade tools (including hand and electrical)
- Ability to work nights and weekends as-needed and be on-call for emergencies or large events.
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, under continual, tight deadlines.
- Basic English language communication and simple arithmetic functions
- Operates various powered equipment in the performance of duties
- Working knowledge in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet
- Ability to work effectively with Parish staff, diocesan employees, volunteers, department heads, and the general public.
- Professional telephone manner and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task, work independently, make responsible judgment calls, pay attention to details with emphasis on meeting deadlines and be reliable.
- Adhere to the Diocese of Palm Beach Code of Conduct with emphasis on confidentiality and the ability to exercise discretion and good judgment
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to safely lift 50 lbs.
- Frequent use of ladders or scaffolding.
- Frequent use of electrical or gas-powered equipment.
- Frequent lifting, pushing, bending and use of heavy carts and other equipment.
- Frequent contact with cleaning supplies and chemicals
- Frequent light lifting and carrying or moving up to 25 pounds
- Frequent use both hands and fingers (i.e. typing and reaching)
- Frequent extended periods of sitting
- Occasional periods of standing, kneeling and climbing
- Occasional ability of minimal hearing (i.e. loud noises, sirens) and routine hearing (i.e. listening to others in conversation)
- Occasional routine talking
- Occasional time spent working closely with others
- Employee will be exposed to visual terminal display for long periods of time.
