St Martin de Porres Catholic Church located in Jensen Beach, FL is searching for a Part Time Director of Sacred Music and Choral Ministry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• To plan, coordinate and execute the full repertoire of Sacred Music for Eucharistic Liturgies at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. As Director of Sacred Music, it is our expressed hope to build upon the existing Music Program at our Parish to facilitate the “full, active and conscious participation” of the Congregation for Sacred Worship.
• To plan, prepare and implement Sacred Music for Weekend Masses (Sat. 4:00pm, Sunday 10:00am) and all other Ritual Masses and Liturgies, including but not limited to Ash Wednesday, The Triduum, Divine Mercy Sunday, September 11th, Christmas, and Holy Days of Obligation. Additionally, all Sacramental celebrations require the assistance of the Director of Sacred Music including planning, preparing, and presenting sacred choral hymnody and cantor for all Mass parts accordingly.
• All Nuptial Masses and Celebrations of Marriage Outside of Mass (expect a maximum of 4 per year), and Funerals/Memorial Masses (expect approximately 25 per year), are also to be planned, prepared, and executed by the Director of Sacred Music.
• Hold Choir rehearsals once weekly
• Hold Handbell Choir rehearsals for Easter and Christmas and at other times or at the Pastor’s or Director’s discretion.
• Accompany and/or Cantor and direct Choir, if applicable, for Weekend Masses and other Masses and Liturgies (see above).
• Attend Liturgy Committee Meetings and monthly Staff meetings if requested by Pastor.
• Adhere to all Policies, Procedures and Protocols of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church and the Diocese of Palm Beach.

Qualifications:

1. Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities

a)      Must have proficiency in the use of the organ and piano as attested to by formal credentials and/or a personal performance audition.

b)      Should have a working knowledge of other instruments which might be used in liturgical music.

c)      Must have skill as an effective choral conductor as demonstrated by formal credentials and/or choral audition (rehearsal).

d)      Must have a knowledge and appreciation of the Church’s liturgical tradition as well as current liturgical practice.

e)      Must have the ability and desire to perform vocally and to lead and sustain a program of quality congregational singing.

2.      Education, Training and/or Experience
The qualifying degrees or credentials for professional status for Director of Sacred Music and Choral Ministries can be met in a variety of ways, up to and including:

a)      Doctoral Level: A Doctoral Degree in music performance or music education, or Fellows/Certificate (FAGO) in American Guild of Organists.

b)      Master’s Level: A Master’s Degree in music performance or music education or Associate’s/Certificate (AAGO) in the American Guild Organists.

c)      Bachelor’s Level: A Bachelors of Arts or Bachelor of Music degree in music performance or music education, or Colleague’s Certificate (CAGO) and the Choir Master’s Certificate (CMAGO) in American Guild of Organists.

d)      Private Study Level: The Archdiocesan Organ Proficiency Exam or the Service Playing Certificate in the American Guild of Organists.

e)      Other

Physical Requirements

• Occasional light lifting and carrying of under 15 pounds
• Occasional moderate carrying and lifting of 15 – 44 pounds
• Frequent bending, climbing, stretching and kneeling
• Frequent use of both hands and fingers
• Occasional moments of minimal and routine hearing
