Dean of Students - Cardinal Newman High School

Cardinal Newman High School located in West Palm Beach; FL is searching for a full time School Dean of Students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Initiate meetings when necessary for implementation or rules and//or policies of Cardinal Newman High School.
  • Advise Administration and/or Guidance of any disciplinary or attendance problems.
  • Assist with the daily attendance record and its distribution to school staff.
  • Assist in providing pertinent information for the Vice Principal to correspond with parents in matters relating to student disciplinary or attendance problems (e.g. letters of concern, and disciplinary probation status, Honor Code violations, etc.); help set parent meetings.
  • Communicate with support staff e.g. maintenance to keep abreast of use, vandalism, and condition of facilities.
  • Confer with school personnel in order to deal more effectively with pupils who present a disciplinary problem.
  • Meet with Administration regarding assignment of Disciplinary Probation and/or suspensions.
  • Contact parents prior to enacting the above
  • Collect, record, and file all data related to discipline and attendance.
  • Oversee the collection of student personal profile information, coordination of student Emergency Information, and distribution of copies to appropriate personnel.
  •  Assist Administration with the implementation and follow-through on faculty handbook issues (e.g. parking lot proctors, lunch proctors, accurate recording of attendance, security/safety issues. Etc.)
  • Work with Administration and Guidance in their duties.
  • Work side-by-side with families to promote students’ growth.

Qualifications:

  • At least five years of experience as teacher or administrator in secondary education
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably has or is currently working towards a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership have a Florida teaching license or out-of-state certification.
  • Practicing Catholic, in good standing with the Catholic Church.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite.
  • Ability to multitask, work independently and make responsible judgment calls.
  • Ability to work effectively with Diocesan employees.
  • Excellent written, verbal and public speaking skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving capacity.
  • Ability to stay focused and organized.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to respect confidentiality and consistently exercise discretion and good business judgment.
  • Strong ethical values.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional light lifting and carrying of under 15 pounds.
  • Occasional moderate carrying and lifting of 15 – 44 pounds.
  • Frequent use both hands and fingers (i.e. typing)
  • Frequent extended periods of sitting.
  • Occasional periods of standing, kneeling and climbing
  • Occasional time spent working closely with others.
  • Occasional moments of minimal and routine hearing
